Savannah's Adoption Celebration!!!

We always like to celebrate our adoptions in a big way so that our kids and their cousins understand what a fantastic blessing it really is! We talk a lot about adoption and what it means and how wonderful our Father in Heaven's Plan is for us to be together as a family.

Yes, this happened last June, but we have been so busy celebrating life, I haven't taken the time to journal about it!!

We let Brighton choose how to celebrate Cole's adoption, so this time we had both boys decide what we should do for our big day. They wanted us all to dress in pink. Pink? For the boys also??? YES! They insisted, so I was on the hunt for pink shirts for boys in the summer. It is much easier to find pink for boys in the spring. After MUCH searching, I came up with the idea of buying pink t-shirts at Joanne's and then getting their "iron-on stick figures" to add some fun!
They turned out DARLING!!!! Each shirt said the person's name at the top and then adoption day at the bottom. I will take pictures close up to add to this post later, but each stick figure is different. All of the Dad's are construction workers, and all of the mom's are scrapbookers, but each of the Brighton, Cole and Savannah's are different characters. I let the boys choose them. For instance, Brighton is an army guy in fatigues on daddy's shirt, a ninja karate boy on his shirt, and a soccer player on my shirt. Savannah is a cheerleader, a baby, a princess, etc. on the different shirts. Cole has a little boy with red and blue clothes on one, a little boy with a magnifying glass and a frog on another. It just gave the shirts such fun personality, and made them all special. It was GREAT!!!

Then the boys and each of the Dittbrenner cousins got to help us pick out balloons for the big day! Savvy was goofy, funny like this all day. It was as though she really knew it was all in honor of HER!


An adoption is just like a courthouse wedding. You go before a judge and make similar promises as you would when getting married. Bill and I had to raise our right hands and promise to love and provide for this beautiful baby. We promised that we would care for her in sickness and in health. I just wish she had to promise to honor and obey us!!!

Then the judge takes the older siblings aside and makes them promise to care for and be kind to this new baby. It is a really special part to help them feel included.
We have amazing friends and we are so thankful for all of them! Here is our "Pink Crew".

The pink crew in the court room! We were the greatest party there! We asked everyone to wear pink if they had it... and it was so fun!!!

There were 10 families getting "adoptions" that afternoon, and we had BY FAR the biggest crowd. We have learned with 3 adoptions completed that it is a time to CELEBRATE and PARTY!!! Everyone out in the hallway waiting kept commenting our our fun clothes and balloons! We have done this before!

We brought pink accessories to share with everyone to add to the festive princess feel of it all! Hot pink boas and beads and flowers for all the girls hair.
